The project was ordered in 1914 by Eusebi Güell, Barcelona’s wealthiest businessman and also a good friend of Gaudi. This was a garden-city project in the style of Catalan Art Nouveau (Modernisme) style. Güell Park is located on the slopes of Carmel Hill on the east borders of Barcelona. The project unfortunately was not finished because of the financial problems of Güell Family.

Park Güell is located in the middle of a large green area on the slopes of Carmel Hill, a little far away from the center of Barcelona. Güell Park has a magnificent panoramic view of Barcelona and the Mediterranean. This unfinished but fantastic park was opened to the public by the Barcelona Municipality in 1926 and was taken to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1984. Entry fee was also introduced in 2015, when the tourists flocked to the city. Park Guell is one of the four most important Gaudí works in Barcelona and hosts a pool of “trencadis” workmanship, one of the most exclusive ornaments of the “Modernisme” art movement. You can see this unique artistic style in the shape of the world’s longest bank and water circle.

On the area of 15 hectares, only one of the 40 villas was completed. This white manor house ” Trias House” can be seen on the upper slopes of the park. This house is still being used by Trias Family. Around the middle of the park you will see one of the most interesting parts of Park Güell; viaducts and roads in the form of birdhouses. Additionaly Casa Museu Gaudi, the house once Gaudi lived is now a museum dedicated to the artist. The salamander fountain is one of the most popular part and also one of the symbols of Barcelona. Sala Hospitalia Square and the world’s longest sitting bank and the Hansel Gratel Houses (was projected as guesthouse and security house) are also amazing buildings not to be missed.

Barcelona metro, official website

Park Güell Tickets

Park Güell Tickets Park Güell Tickets:(Due to the large influx of visitors, limited number of visitors are allowed each day, buy your ticket here to guarantee entry.)
